Water based adhesives also known as waterborne adhesives, liquid glues or white glues are a mixture of liquid or semi-liquid material that bonds one surface to another. These adhesives are supplied as formulated solutions which must be mixed with water prior to application.
Hotmelt adhesives are generally 100% solids formulations based on thermoplastic polymers. They are solid at room temperature and are activated upon heating above their softening point, at which stage they are liquid, and hence can be processed. Solidification typically takes only a few seconds after dispensing and once cooled to room temperature, these thermoplastic adhesives reach full strength.
Gelatin based adhesive or Jelly glue or animal glue are collage based adhesive. Generally JELLY GLUE bonds surfaces which are water sensitive, such as paper, board, cloth, foam, backed vinyl fabrics etc. These products are characterised by strong initial tack properties, along with the proper set time, clean machining, and pleasant odour and provide long adhesive mileage.
The performance of solvent-based adhesives is largely determined by the binding agents dispersed in an organic solvent. When the solvent evaporates, the adhesive changes from liquid to its final solid form. The function of the relatively highly volatile solvents is to facilitate an easy transport and application of the adhesive.
